AKA Times Square – the perfect New York base!

“3 weeks in New York was amazing, but not nearly enough for us! We have made a promise to return within the next 5 years!”

New York was everything we ever imagined ….. and so much more!  From the glitz and excitement of Times Square, to the theatre district, and the charming Upper East Side, we fell in love with this magnificent city.”

It is so easy to get around in New York, taxis are much cheaper than back here, and the Subway is definitely the way to go, with a stop on just about every corner.

Aside from the usual Rockefeller Centre, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, The Met, we also:

Took a day trip across to Hoboken, NJ, to check out the Cake Boss’s Carlo’s Bakery.  Be prepared to get in line, unless you’ve pre-ordered. But the wait is definitely worth it.  There’s a great selection of restaurants along the waterfront too with amazing views back across to New York.

Visited the 911 Memorial

Went to the Guggenheim Museum to check out the latest display Gutai: Splendid Playground

Walked across the Brooklyn Bridge

If you like architecture, prepare to be amazed!  Old Churches, turn of the century buildings, modern skyscrapers, bridges, museums; I kept getting left behind trying to capture it all on my camera!

New York has it all, from the corner pizza shop, to iconic New York Delis, and fine dining ….. and everything in between.  Baltic, Italian, Asian, Mexican, Steak, Seafood and the New York Hot Dog cart on every second corner – you name it, New York has it. We even went to a fondue restaurant! Yum.

My highlight of the trip was a bike ride through Central Park!  What an experience! We hired bikes from a bike shop near the Park (if you prefer, you can be escorted around the park by a guide on a purpose built bike).

There were sections that we had to get off and walk the bikes, but overall, the riding was do-able. And the scenery was amazing!  I got my favourite shot of the trip.
